Your Solution
There is another option when the electric power grid goes down. A safe, effective, and affordable way without breaking the bank.... (With cost upwards around $18,000 or more to have a automatic home stand-by generator installed.) We can create an affordable reliable solution for you that will make it much easier and safer to set up your portable generator when the power goes down. Without running extension cords everywhere, and panicking to hook up your essential circuits like your lights, outlets, ceiling fans, TV, refrigerator, freezer, gas heat, etc. (and even your central air conditioner) A Texas Licensed Electrician can install an interlock transfer kit, with a generator inlet for your potable generator. Just start the generator, plug in the cord, flip the switch, and behold.. "Let There Be Light". Electric power directly to your breaker panel. No more tripping over extension cords.
Installation
Basic Installation Set Up For An Interlock Transfer Installation
Install a generator interlock transfer kit in main breaker panel. Install generator double pole circuit breaker and relocate breakers in panel to place breaker in correct location for the interlock transfer kit to operate correctly. Install conductors, conduit or cable from generator breaker, outside below or behind the breaker panel, and install a 4- wire, twist lock, weatherproof generator inlet box. Inspect circuit breaker panel for any loose connections at breakers, neutrals bar and ground bar. Inspect grounding electrode (ground rod) and grounding connections at main electrical service entrance house panel/disconnect. Instructions on the operation of the interlock transfer system.
Cost For A Basic 50 Amp Interlock Transfer Installation Starts At Only $945.00
Portable generators have a 30 amp or 50 amp interlock transfer installation, depending on the size/wattage of the generator. Price includes basic installation cost. Other chargers that could factor in would be any changes to the breaker panel, the generator inlet location, and to simulate power outage. If an electrical permit is required there is an extra cost. Do Not Plug The Generator Into A Wall Outlet Never try to power your home by plugging the generator into a wall outlet or the main electrical panel. Only a Licensed electrician should connect a generator to a main electrical panel by installing the proper equipment according to National and Local codes. Make sure the electrician installs an approved interlock transfer kit, so you can disconnect the main breaker from the utility power supply before your portable generator energizes the breaker panel. Carbon Monoxide From Portable Generators Exhaust from portable generators contains carbon monoxide, an invisible, odorless gas that can be fatal if generator is not positioned correctly. Generators should never be used indoors or in enclosed spaces such as garages, storage buildings, or porches. Always run generators outdoors as far away from doors, windows, and air intake vents as possible.
Additional Options
Additional Options For Interlock Transfer Installations
Carbon Monoxide Detectors: We cannot stress enough how important it is to have Carbon Monoxide Detectors in your home when running a internal combustion engine outside your home, such as a portable generator. Whole House Surge Protector: There are many disruptions and surges within the power system of your home. Major appliances, faulty wiring, grid lines down, electrical equipment problems and repairs, high electricity demand, lighting, and power surge from generators. Whole house surge protectors are hard wired to the breaker panel. Air Conditioner Surge Protector: Air conditioners need surge protection as well, for the same reasons as above. They are hard wired at the air conditioner disconnects. Air Conditioner Hard Start Kits: Hard start kit can help start your central air condition unit. They are designed to give your air conditioning compressor an electrical boost upon start, by reducing the lock-rotor amperage (LRA). They can also extend the life of the air condition system, help with dimming lights when A/C starts, and when your A/C compressor won't start or when humming, and may help when the A/C trips the breaker on startup.
